The Secondary Special Education Teacher plays a crucial role in the education of deaf and hard-of-hearing students, particularly those with moderate to severe disabilities. This position requires the teacher to deliver instruction tailored to the unique needs of these students, utilizing state, local, and district curriculum standards. The teacher will be responsible for planning and providing effective instruction, assessing student progress, and ensuring that students meet their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals. The role involves evaluating student work, providing timely feedback, and maintaining accurate records of student performance. Additionally, the teacher will contribute to the personal growth of students by discussing future goals, career options, and socio-emotional well-being, while also promoting an understanding of Deaf culture and soft skills. Collaboration is a key component of this position, as the teacher will work closely with staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure that appropriate services are provided to students. Attendance at bilingual education training and the implementation of bilingual methodologies are also required. Effective communication with students and their families, particularly in American Sign Language (ASL), is essential for success in this role. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Special Education or a related field, with a preference for those holding a degree in Deaf Education.
