About the position

The Secondary Teacher for High School Spanish at Jefferson Parish Schools is responsible for promoting the mental, physical, emotional, and social growth of students assigned to their care. This role requires the teacher to utilize available instructional materials and a variety of techniques to provide opportunities for student achievement and development. The teacher must demonstrate knowledge and application of appropriate developmental practices for young children, ensuring that all students receive a quality education tailored to their individual needs. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the teacher is expected to maintain accurate and neat records, including class lists, attendance, health records, report cards, and permanent folders. An attractive classroom environment must be maintained, and any unsafe conditions should be reported for repairs. The teacher will develop and implement effective classroom management techniques and complete reports, assignments, and records in a timely manner. They will also be responsible for collecting lunch and/or activity monies as necessary and must plan and prepare for classes, submitting lesson plans weekly. Regular and punctual reporting to assigned work locations is essential, along with notifying the principal or designated person of any impending absences. The teacher must supply substitutes with adequate plans and materials and maintain the books and equipment assigned to the class. Knowledge of methods, programs, curriculum guides, procedure bulletins, and available resources in the system is crucial for success in this role. The teacher will continually evaluate student progress and plan with student needs in mind, encouraging parental involvement in the students' educational journey. Professional growth is also a key component of this position, as the teacher is expected to participate in in-service training and contribute to faculty meetings and studies. Compliance with Louisiana laws concerning the education, health, safety, and welfare of assigned students is mandatory. The teacher will assist in the development and implementation of quality education in Jefferson Parish Public Schools and actively participate in the evaluation process, performing all other duties assigned by the principal.

Requirements

  • College Degree
  • Valid Louisiana Teaching Certificate
  • Certification in area of assignment
