About the position

The Secretary - Attendance position at Mountain View High is primarily focused on providing administrative assistance related to student attendance. This role involves operating computer systems and performing various clerical tasks to support the student absence reporting programs. The individual in this position will be responsible for typing and preparing letters or documents using various software applications, entering data into district systems, and maintaining accurate absence records, logs, and ledgers. The work is performed under the supervision of the school principal, and the primary duties are carried out in a general office environment. In this role, the secretary will answer incoming phone calls, accept and record student absence calls, and operate standard and specialized office equipment, including computer hardware and software. The position requires generating and distributing computer reports, reviewing absence reports for accuracy, and maintaining detailed absence data. The secretary will also be responsible for typing forms, letters, and other documents, ensuring that all work is performed in accordance with district policies, procedures, and safety practices. Additionally, the secretary may be required to perform other related duties as needed. The ideal candidate will possess strong public relations and customer service skills, as well as proficiency in operating standard office equipment and job-related software such as Word and Excel. The ability to maintain effective working relationships with school employees and the public is essential, along with the capability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalency and two years of general office experience, preferably in a customer service role.

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming phone calls and record student absence calls.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Two years of general office experience, preferably in a position requiring strong customer service or public relations skills.
  • Knowledge of public relations and customer service techniques.
  • Ability to keep accurate and detailed statistical reports.
  • Ability to perform a wide variety of clerical and administrative support duties.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to maintain records efficiently and accurately and prepare clear reports.
  • Ability to operate a variety of standard and specialized office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions.

Nice-to-haves
