About the position

The Secretary/Technician position at Atlantic Health System is a part-time role located at Hackettstown Medical Center, primarily focused on providing essential support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This position encompasses a blend of secretarial and patient care technician duties, ensuring that both administrative and patient care needs are met efficiently. The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of secretarial tasks, including answering phones, managing call bells, assisting visitors, maintaining supply inventory, ordering and restocking supplies, and preparing and maintaining patient charts. Additionally, the role involves tracking patient flow in and out of the unit and filing documents as needed, with a strong emphasis on utilizing the EPIC system for patient management. In terms of patient care responsibilities, the Secretary/Technician will work under the direction of registered nurses (RNs) to perform various tasks such as conducting EKGs, phlebotomy, glucose testing, assisting with meals, and providing transportation for patients. The role also includes disinfecting equipment and performing activities of daily living (ADLs) such as skin care, bathing, oral hygiene, and mobility assistance. Flexibility and a patient-focused approach are crucial, as the candidate will be expected to assist with patient care and transportation as required. This position is integral to the smooth operation of the ICU, contributing to the overall quality of care provided to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Answer phones and manage call bells in the ICU.
  • Assist visitors and maintain a welcoming environment.
  • Manage supply inventory and order necessary supplies.
  • Restock supplies and ensure availability for patient care.
  • Prepare and maintain patient charts accurately.
  • Track patient flow in and out of the unit.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 1-2 years of experience as a Patient Care Technician (PCT) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
