About the position

The WIOA Sector Strategy Career Coach plays a crucial role in connecting unemployed and underemployed individuals with training opportunities in high-demand, high-wage, and high-skill industry sectors. This position requires expertise in sector-related training programs and funding opportunities, as well as the ability to foster relationships with employers and training providers to ensure successful job placements for program completers. The coach is responsible for enhancing retention rates among training participants and providing ongoing support throughout their training journey.

Responsibilities

  • Stay updated on sector-specific training programs offered by community colleges and training providers.
  • Provide guidance to individuals seeking training opportunities in high-demand sectors.
  • Identify relevant training pathways and certifications that align with industry needs.
  • Assist individuals with the training application and enrollment process.
  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract unemployed and underemployed individuals to training programs.
  • Conduct outreach activities and recruitment events to raise awareness of training opportunities.
  • Build relationships with WIOA Career Coaches and High School Career Coaches for better participant support.
  • Understand various funding sources available for training activities.
  • Assist individuals in navigating the funding application process.
  • Provide ongoing support to training participants to enhance retention rates.
  • Address barriers that may arise during the training process and offer solutions.
  • Cultivate relationships with employers and training providers for quality job placements.
  • Collaborate with industry partners to align training programs with workforce needs.
  • Advocate for training participants to employers, highlighting their skills and qualifications.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in workforce development, career counseling, or related roles.
  • In-depth knowledge of high-demand industry sectors and training pathways.
  • Familiarity with funding sources and financial assistance programs for training.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build rapport and motivate individuals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to navigate traditional and digital tools for recruitment and training support.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
