About the position

The Security Administrator II plays a crucial role in supporting the Department of Health and Human Services, specifically the Indian Health Services (IHS). This position is responsible for ensuring that information security requirements, compliance, and governance are integrated into the enterprise architecture throughout the system lifecycle. The role involves the development, implementation, and ongoing administration of systems in accordance with government regulations, all while working remotely within the DMV area.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and update system security plans for CDM tools and interconnection agreements.
  • Maintain and mature IHS-defined system-level security requirements and specifications.
  • Perform reviews and audits of mixed Windows and Linux environments for system anomalies and user behaviors.
  • Support enterprise security investments to meet specifications of the Enterprise Architecture section of OMB Exhibit 300.
  • Provide technical supervision and support for Windows and Linux based CDM tools as assigned by the client.
  • Assist in managing applications for the CDM effort.
  • Install, operate, maintain, and upgrade all DIS CDM tools and IDS/IPS tools as assigned by the client.
  • Navigate within the system to define and follow requirements related to licensing and troubleshooting.
  • Create, track, implement, maintain, and tune all IDS/IPS rule sets.
  • Manage users, roles, and authentication, and patch systems as required.
  • Review system architecture during initial phases of development and evaluate planned security controls.
  • Respond to technical security issues as requested by the CISO and provide recommendations or solutions.
  • Research and document standard security configurations for IT systems.
  • Provide guidance and support for implementation at IHS facilities and contracted partners.
  • Maintain a test lab environment for developing standard configurations and testing new technology.
  • Develop policies and procedures to standardize security functions and eliminate vulnerabilities.
  • Monitor system alerts and analyze data for security incidents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 6 years relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • Must be able to obtain a IHS (Public Trust) clearance investigation.
  • Security+, Network+, Server+, and Linux+ certifications required or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • CISSP preferred, CCNA/CCNP, CASP+ recommended, and Splunk Power User preferred or to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Expert computer skills with advanced proficiency in Windows and Linux environments.
  • Specialized knowledge in security incident management, threat intelligence, and continuous monitoring.
  • Ability to read, analyze, develop, and interpret information systems security documents.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills to identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues.
