About the position

The County IT Security Architect is a senior-level role responsible for the strategic planning, design, and implementation of a comprehensive security framework to protect the county's IT infrastructure and digital assets. This position involves leading the development of security protocols, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations, and addressing unique security challenges in a county government environment. The architect will also manage complex network systems, conduct risk assessments, and educate stakeholders on cybersecurity best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the county's IT security architecture.
  • Design network solutions that meet performance, reliability, and scalability requirements.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate security risks across all IT systems and platforms.
  • Create and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures compliant with regulations.
  • Maintain documentation of network architecture, configurations, and procedures.
  • Lead the response to security incidents, including investigation and remediation.
  • Design and enforce network security measures to protect against unauthorized access and data breaches.
  • Evaluate, recommend, and implement security technologies such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and prepare for security audits.
  • Collaborate with IT departments and external partners to integrate security best practices.
  • Provide training and awareness programs for county staff on security protocols.
  • Oversee security-related projects from conception through implementation.
  • Stay informed of the latest cybersecurity threats and implement threat intelligence programs.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of security architecture and incident response activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in IT security with network architecture, design, and implementation.
  • Four years of experience in a security architecture role.
  • Experience in government or public sector environments is highly desirable.
  • Valid Florida driver's license with a good driving record.
  • Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, or equivalent are required; advanced certifications like SABSA or TOGAF are a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with endpoint security systems and threat detection systems.
  • Familiarity with wireless networks and access point security management.
  • Knowledge of VoIP systems and telecommunications security practices.
  • Understanding of penetration testing methodologies and tools.
