About the position

Splunk is seeking Bachelor's or Master's students for a Summer 2025 internship as a Security Data Scientist Intern. This role involves working on machine learning detections within security contexts, providing interns with hands-on experience in a dynamic, startup-like environment. Interns will collaborate with multi-functional teams, receive mentorship, and engage in projects that have a visible impact, all while supporting their growth and development in the field.

Responsibilities

• Achieve data science and product management goals set by you and your mentor within the context of security.
• Learn about Splunk, both the product and the company.
• Work and socialize with other interns and full-time Splunkers.
• Collaborate with diverse partners to help them make data-driven decisions around how to improve our products.
• Complete a short-term project that will have visible impact.
• Grow your technical and business skills.

Requirements

• Actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Informatics, Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics or a related technical field.
• Strong record of academic achievement.
• At least one semester/quarter remaining to complete after the internship.
• Available to work 40 hours a week for 12 weeks.

• Superb interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to explore open-ended questions and present compelling arguments using data.
• Knowledge of Excel, SQL, and visualization tools such as Tableau.
• Ability to apply statistics to real-life security problems.
• Exposure to security data, especially for large scale analytics.
• Ability to articulate a business case and dissect the value proposition of a product.
• Previous internship in a related field.
• Bonus if able to build searches and dashboards in Splunk.
