About the position

The Security Guard will play a vital role in maintaining the safety and security of HOPE Community Services during night shifts. This position involves monitoring the premises, ensuring the safety of staff, clients, and visitors, and addressing any security concerns with a compassionate and trauma-informed approach. The Security Guard will frequently interact with individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, or trauma, requiring empathy and alignment with HOPE's mission to treat all people with dignity and respect.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols of the facility to ensure the safety and security of the grounds, particularly at entrances, parking areas, and surrounding properties.
  • Address any security issues that arise, including incidents involving individuals loitering, trespassing, or engaging in unsafe behavior, with a calm and professional demeanor.
  • Use verbal de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution skills to handle potentially tense situations, ensuring the safety of everyone involved.
  • Offer assistance to clients, staff, and visitors who may feel unsafe or in need of help, always providing a welcoming and non-judgmental presence.
  • Liaise with law enforcement or emergency responders in accordance with the agency's safety protocols when necessary.
  • Document and report any incidents, observations, or suspicious activity to the Facilities Operations Coordinator, maintaining a clear and accurate log of events.
  • Ensure that all entrances and exits are secure and report any facility maintenance concerns that could compromise safety.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by ensuring that the properties are free from debris and hazards.
  • Interact regularly with individuals who may be struggling with trauma, homelessness, mental health challenges, and addiction, offering resources or referrals to appropriate services when possible.
  • After closing, ensure that clients and visitors have safely left the premises, offering any necessary support or guidance in a respectful manner.
  • Respond promptly to any incidents or altercations, including clients who have not departed after closing, aggressive or unsafe behavior, or destruction of property.
  • Contact appropriate authorities when needed and in accordance with HOPE's policies and procedures.
  • Treat clients with respect and compassion, providing support and assistance as needed.
  • Provide a detailed report of each shift, including any incidents or concerns, at the end of each shift.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior security experience strongly preferred, particularly in a healthcare, community, or behavioral health setting.
  • Strong commitment to treating all individuals with dignity and respect, understanding the unique challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness and addiction.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments in emergency situations.
  • Training or experience in de-escalation, crisis intervention, or trauma-informed care is highly desired.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure situations.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in reporting and documentation software or systems.
  • Willingness to work night shifts and be flexible with schedule changes.
  • Current, valid Oklahoma driver's license required. Must meet HOPE insurance requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Training or experience in de-escalation, crisis intervention, or trauma-informed care is highly desired.
  • Past training or experience in security is preferred.
