The Security Officer serves as the Governmental Letter of Authority (GLOA) Security Officer, specifically commissioned to patrol and perform regulatory duties related to the safeguarding of Dallas County property. This role operates outside of direct supervision and is responsible for completing routine police reports and forms, carrying firearms and intermediate weapons, and attending TXDPS and law enforcement in-service training. The Security Officer enforces fire codes, county ordinances, and other life safety codes while monitoring fire and life safety equipment. Additionally, the officer operates patrol vehicles, directs traffic, and assists Marshal Service peace officers as directed. In detail, the Security Officer performs security duties in and around County property, assists in controlling disturbances and access, and takes necessary actions to prevent injury to persons and loss of property. The officer is required to report all circumstances to their immediate supervisor and complete court-ready police reports. Responsibilities also include responding to fire alarms, bomb threats, medical emergencies, burglar alarms, and other calls for service. The officer helps coordinate the evacuation of buildings when necessary and oversees the screening of individuals entering the Courts buildings of Dallas County, documenting any issues that arise. The Security Officer is also responsible for reporting maintenance needs identified during rounds and operates as dispatch for maintenance after hours and on weekends. The role involves enforcing County ordinances and policies, extinguishing lights, securing doors during non-business hours, patrolling, and escorting County personnel. The officer must be prepared to work in inclement weather conditions and document lost and found merchandise, confiscated items, and contraband, notifying the supervisor in charge of any issues. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
