About the position

The Security Officer position at Memorial Hermann Health System is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the hospital campus. This role involves monitoring assigned areas, controlling access points, responding to emergencies, and providing assistance to patients, visitors, and staff. The Security Officer plays a crucial role in creating a safe environment while adhering to hospital policies and promoting professional growth within the department.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor assigned areas to ensure maximum visibility of security presence.
  • Post in assigned area or conduct patrols in vehicle or on foot.
  • Ensure security of all designated areas and access points, controlling vehicular access to buildings and parking areas.
  • Identify and report all fire and safety hazards, suspicious activities, or breaches of security.
  • Control access of areas and materials by administering and enforcing visitor and materials pass programs.
  • Understand hospital, building management, and departmental policies and procedures; comply with job requirements at all times.
  • Respond to all security and emergency situations as dispatched or assigned; assist patients, visitors, and staff by answering questions and providing escorts, directions, and vehicle assists.
  • Complete and submit required security reports and activity logs within assigned shift; operate and care for security equipment; maintain knowledge of emergency systems and equipment.
  • Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to all policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; support department-based goals.
  • Demonstrate commitment to caring for every member of the community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences.
  • Model service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certified as a Certified Healthcare Basic Security Officer by the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (must obtain certification within six months of hire).
  • Licensed as a Commissioned Security Officer by the Texas Department of Public Safety Private Security Bureau (must obtain license within 90 days of hire).
  • Possession of a valid driver's license (must obtain a Texas Driver's license within 90 days of employment).
  • Certified in Heartsaver® CPR or Heartcode BLS CPR by the American Heart Association (must obtain certification within 90 days of hire).
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Ability to understand and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers is required.
