About the position

The Security Officer I at WellSpan Health is responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for patients, employees, visitors, and other customers. This role involves patrolling the premises, responding to emergencies, and ensuring the protection of the organization's assets and property.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols the buildings and premises to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, and intrusion.
  • Patrol parking lots to ensure the safety of individuals and the security of parked vehicles.
  • Reports all suspicious activity, parking violations, and abandoned vehicles.
  • Responds to emergency situations such as accidents, injuries, fire alarms, crimes in progress, and safety hazards.
  • Provides assistance, summons proper authorities, and polices area to maintain order and safety.
  • Employs necessary equipment including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during unsafe situations.
  • Responds to inquiries for advice or assistance from employees, students, visitors, and other customers.
  • Monitors the conduct of visitors on premises and confronts unauthorized persons as needed.
  • Escorts personnel and visitors to parking lots and hospital buildings.
  • Maintains post as assigned in accordance with training.
  • Notifies police in case of theft, breaking and entering, or other criminal matters.
  • Notifies Supervisors of events requiring further investigation and assists as directed.
  • Maintains records, prepares incident reports, and attends hearings.
  • Conducts routine visual inspections and reports safety or fire hazards.
  • Responds to on-site fire drills and assists the responding fire department.
  • Secures and/or unlocks offices and facilities.
  • Supports the parking policy and enforces parking regulations.
  • Assists with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
  • Performs Security Operations duties as assigned.
  • Secures patient valuables and found property.
  • Prepares clear, concise, and factual incident reports.
  • Ensures all documentation is submitted as required prior to end of shift.
  • Completes vehicle checklists.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Required.
  • Heartsaver CPR/AED within 90 days Required.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence.
  • FEMA ISP: IS-100.c - Intro to Incident Command System, I-100 within 90 days Required.
  • Report Writing within 90 days Required.
  • Behavioral Emergency Response Training (BERT) within 90 days Required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Practical and Tactical Handcuffing within 90 days Preferred.
  • Oleoresin Capsicum (Gel) within 90 days Preferred.
  • Taser within 90 days Preferred.
