About the position
The Security Officer I position at DMC Receiving Hospital is responsible for providing protection to the hospital, its patients, visitors, and employees. This role involves maintaining a visible security presence, conducting patrols, and ensuring compliance with hospital rules and regulations. The officer will assist with access control, investigate security-related complaints, and respond to emergency situations, all while promoting the values of the DMC.
Responsibilities
- Provide protection to hospital, patients, visitors, employees, and their property under general supervision.
- Perform patrols of assigned areas to maintain security and observe potential risks.
- Assist patients, guests, and staff by providing general information and access control.
- Perform public service duties such as escorting individuals and assisting with locked vehicles or rooms.
- Investigate complaints regarding parking, safety, and security matters, and prepare reports on significant events.
- Patrol parking lots and decks to ensure security and compliance with regulations.
- Monitor security and fire equipment, and provide information to the public and hospital staff as needed.
- Engage in additional education and training relevant to security.
- Assist in releasing bodies from the morgue when necessary.
- Respond to Emergency Codes in accordance with hospital policies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and four years of experience in security, public law enforcement, or military police.
- Two years of college coursework in criminal justice or related field and three years of experience in security or law enforcement.
- Completion of State of Michigan MCOLES certified police academy and three years of experience in security or law enforcement.
- Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or related area with internship or volunteer work in security or law enforcement.
- Valid State of Michigan driver's license.
