About The Position

The Security Officer I at Drury University is responsible for ensuring the safety and protection of faculty, staff, students, and their property on campus. This role involves patrolling university grounds, responding to emergencies, and acting as a liaison with local law enforcement and first responders. The officer will document incidents, secure buildings, and assist the campus community with various needs, all while maintaining a visible presence to deter potential violations.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to complete initial training certification within 60 days of employment.
• Strong writing skills for documentation and report writing.
• Good judgment and ability to function under pressure during emergencies.
• Interpersonal communication skills to relate to campus community and emergency personnel.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in security or law enforcement is preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

• Patrols university property by vehicle and on foot.
• Walks throughout the campus entering buildings and climbing stairs to inspect property.
• Examines doors and windows for security.
• Inspects for fire and safety hazards, documenting any irregularities.
• Detains violators temporarily for the police department if necessary.
• Secures buildings as scheduled each day and occasionally unlocks buildings for authorized personnel.
• Answers security cellular phone and communicates information to the campus community.
• Reports irregularities to the Patrol Supervisor and emergencies to the Director of Safety & Security immediately.
• Completes daily paperwork such as offense reports and incidental reports.
• Issues campus citations for university policy violations.
• Responds to emergency calls and notifies appropriate emergency personnel.
