Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of security and safety related functions while involved in the safeguard of employees, patients, visitors and property.
  • Provide parking enforcement and traffic control for all patients, visitors, and employees throughout hospital property.
  • Enforce procedural rules and regulations to ensure the personal safety of staff, visitors, patients, and property.
  • Patrol assigned areas including all buildings within the main campus and check for suspicious occurrences.
  • Operate and monitor security control panel alarms, surveillance cameras, and related security equipment.
  • Issue photo identifications for all new employees and check ID cards of persons entering the facility.
  • Open and close facility, ensuring that users have left the premises and report security and general maintenance problems.
  • Take immediate action when codes or other emergencies arise on the campus.
  • Monitor, detain, restrain, and effectively manage disruptive or combatant patients.
  • Review all hospital policies and procedures at least once per year and provide feedback on needed changes.
  • Respond to all pages received within 5 minutes and emergencies, all codes, and spills.
  • Coordinate and attend all helicopter take-off and landings as required by hospital policy.
  • Enforce parking rules and regulations and maintain the parking database.
  • Assist patients, visitors, and staff with lockouts, flat tires, jump-starts, and other situations.
  • Complete necessary information and maintain a log of all incidents that occur during the course of each shift.
  • Assist law enforcement agencies when requested within the boundaries of hospital regulation.
  • Report all MVAs to the Manager of Security and complete all necessary documentation.
  • Collect and transport money and handle small amounts of cash and transactions when necessary.
  • Maintain records and logs for lost and found items and patient valuables.
  • Respond and receive shipments of goods to the hospital after regular hours.
  • Act as a messenger/courier for in-house transport of special reports or supplies.
  • Perform similar or related duties as requested or directed.

Requirements

  • 2 year / Associate Degree in Security or Law Enforcement, preferred.
  • Minimum one year experience as a security officer in a public or private security force, or two years active military service with Honorable Discharge, required.
  • Completion of official police or peace officer training academy.
  • Valid NYS Armed Security Guard License or NYS Certified Police Officer/ Peace Officer, preferred.
  • NYS Driver's License, required.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid required within 120 days of hire.
  • Aerosol Subject Restraint (Pepper Spray) Certification required within 120 of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of official police or peace officer training academy may substitute some required experience/certifications.
