About the position

The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of hospital buildings and grounds during the night shift. This role involves patrolling the premises, monitoring security systems, and responding to emergencies to protect employees, patients, and visitors. The officer will also handle property-related incidents and assist with traffic control and transportation services as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol buildings and grounds to ensure security and safety.
  • Examine doors, windows, and gates for tampering.
  • Detect unauthorized persons or vehicles and confront them as necessary.
  • Locate and escort missing patients back to their proper places.
  • Check and report on the functionality of emergency lighting and access routes.
  • Protect the safety of employees, patients, and visitors during crisis situations.
  • Monitor alarm systems, fire annunciators, and CCTV systems.
  • Sound fire signals to alert relevant personnel in case of fire.
  • Intervene in potentially dangerous situations to alleviate fears and confrontations.
  • Check bags and possessions of individuals entering or leaving the hospital.
  • Investigate and report lost, stolen, or missing property.
  • Detect and report unusual conditions or malfunctions in hospital systems.
  • Perform security functions for hospital-related events.
  • Monitor and direct traffic control on hospital premises.
  • Check parked vehicles for proper parking and issue warnings for violations.
  • Provide local transportation services as needed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and fuel for security vehicles.
  • Relieve switchboard operator when necessary.
  • Report abandoned or stolen vehicles to the Security Office.
  • Maintain key control for staff and students.
  • Safeguard cash and checks after business hours.
  • Answer routine questions from visitors.
  • Inspect safety devices and test alarm systems as required.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • Current and valid New York State Driver License.
  • Eligibility for NYS Security guard registration and criminal history check.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather.
  • Ability to climb stairs, walk reasonable distances, and stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior security experience.
