About the position

The Security Officer at the Oklahoma History Center is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of the facility, its visitors, and staff. This role involves monitoring the premises through closed circuit television, managing access for vendors and visitors, and responding to emergencies according to established guidelines. The officer plays a crucial role in maintaining a secure environment and providing excellent customer service to all guests.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor guests in the facility and on the grounds to detect safety issues and potential security concerns using closed circuit television monitors.
  • Notify floor security guards via radio of the need for corrective action or if irregularities are seen.
  • Verify that all cameras are operational and positioned correctly for area monitoring.
  • Monitor alarm panel and fire alarm system and take appropriate action based on incidents.
  • Initiate and follow the guidelines for incident reports based on emergencies.
  • Maintain detailed logs by typing entries into a computer.
  • Control distribution and maintain property and logs for company vehicle keys, building access badges, radios, safety vests, flashlights, and other necessary items.
  • Check in vendors and visitors entering the facility through the west dock entrance, ensuring all visitors are logged in.
  • Keep dock traffic moving to ensure equal access to the facility and ensure only authorized vehicles are at the dock.
  • Greet visitors and answer phones in a positive and professional manner, providing appropriate information or transferring calls as needed.
  • Report equipment issues to leadership to ensure the operation of equipment.
  • Log and tag lost and found items.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related duties as needed.
  • Administer OHC guidelines and emergency procedures, assisting with difficult situations and emergency responses, including evacuations and shelter-in-place events.

Requirements

  • Great customer service mentality towards employees and visitors.
  • Ability to communicate clearly via radio and in-person to patrol guards.
  • Ability to sit and watch computer/TV monitors for long periods of time and stay focused on safety.
  • Proficient ability to type and use a computer.
  • Sharp technical mind capable of working with different models of video equipment, computers, and radios.
  • Ability to learn museum policies and procedures and calmly respond to emergency situations.
  • Ability to proactively interact with visitors and provide guidance on OHC guidelines.
  • Ability to conduct detailed inspections in accordance with OHC procedures.
  • Ability to fill out forms accurately and completely.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • 2 years prior security experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED.

Benefits

  • Compensation of $40,000.00 a year plus benefits.
