The Security Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for all individuals entering Dignity Health properties. The Security Officer is responsible for protecting staff, patients, and visitors by responding promptly to calls for assistance, which may involve dealing with violent or unruly patients, crimes in progress, and emergency situations. The officer will patrol the facility and grounds, either on foot or by vehicle, and will be responsible for monitoring security alarms and dispatching officers to locations as needed. Additionally, the officer must report unsafe acts or conditions, be knowledgeable about emergency procedures, and investigate any security breaches, documenting incidents accurately in reports. The role also includes logging daily activities and ensuring clear communication using appropriate emergency and radio codes. The Security Officer must be comfortable with transporting items to the morgue when necessary, reflecting the diverse responsibilities of this position.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and secure environment for all who enter Dignity Health properties.
  • Respond to calls for assistance in a timely manner, including dealing with violent or unruly patients and crimes in progress.
  • Patrol the facility and grounds by foot or vehicle.
  • Monitor security alarms and dispatch officers promptly to required locations.
  • Report unsafe acts or conditions observed during patrols.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and equipment, and report HIPAA breaches if witnessed.
  • Investigate security breaches and conduct follow-up investigations.
  • Log all activities in a daily log to accurately record events.
  • Complete clear, concise, and legible reports in a timely manner.
  • Use appropriate emergency and radio codes in dispatching security officers.
  • Familiarity with the hospital campus to ensure accurate dispatching.
  • Transport items to the morgue as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent OR three (3) years' experience as a security officer.
  • Current California (CA) Driver's License with a clean DMV report on file.
  • CA Security Officer License with no disciplinary actions.
  • Completion of IAHSS Basic Training for Healthcare Security Officer within 90 days of employment.
  • American Heart Association approved Basic Life Support (CPR/BLS) certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Annual workplace violence training.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six (6) months experience as a security officer in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Prior law enforcement experience.
  • One (1) year experience as a security officer.
