About the position

The Security Officer at Corewell Health is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment within the hospital premises. This part-time role involves patrolling the hospital buildings and grounds, responding to emergencies, and providing assistance to staff, patients, and visitors. The officer will also manage access control to secured areas and engage in conflict resolution when necessary, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Patrol hospital buildings and grounds to detect or deter criminal activity and unsafe conditions.
• Respond to emergency situations and calls for service.
• Document information on incident reports and other required documents in a thorough, factual, and timely manner.
• Assist employees, visitors, and patients with directions, lost and found items, vehicle assistance, escorts, and other requests for assistance.
• Provide access control for secured areas.
• Communicate and collaborate with patients, visitors, and members of the health care team.
• Manage verbal/physical conflicts using de-escalation techniques and appropriate legal force options.
• Respond to and investigate suspicious, criminal, or emergency situations.
• Engage in continuous study of the professional field to maintain competence and skills.
• Complete required ongoing training and education, including department-specific requirements.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 21 years of age with a valid Michigan driver's license.
• Certification in First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) within 180 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

• Associate's Degree in Public Administration or Criminal Justice.
• 2 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
• Experience in Law Enforcement Academy or Military (active duty) in a comparable environment.
