About the position

The Security Officer is responsible for ensuring the safety, health, and protection of employees and Authority-related assets at various facilities, including electrical generating stations and transmission lines. This role involves monitoring access, conducting inspections, and enforcing safety regulations to maintain a secure environment.

Responsibilities

• Control entrance-exit to the facility, logging entries and exits of personnel and vehicles.
• Conduct searches of personnel and vehicles to detect prohibited items.
• Follow and enforce NERC regulations.
• Inspect fire extinguishers, spill kits, hose cabinets, standpipes, lube oil storage lockers, fire suppression units, and eye wash stations monthly.
• Participate in quarterly safety, security, and fire emergency drills.
• Conduct patrols of the grounds and plant according to departmental guidelines.
• Document findings related to security, safety, and fire protection deficiencies.
• Write incident reports as necessary.
• Utilize CCTV for command post details and report to supervision.
• Observe and control unattended access points with CCTV support.
• Patrol various power projects and conduct security equipment testing weekly and monthly.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
• Two years of military experience or civilian industrial security/safety programs in security, safety, or fire protection.
• Acquire and maintain NY State Security Guard License as per the Security Guard Act of 1992.
• Certification in First Aid and CPR from the American Red Cross.
• Maintain annual guard license and certification in accordance with NY State Security Guard Act.
