About the position

The Security Officer at Corewell Health is responsible for maintaining a safe and peaceful environment for all individuals on hospital property. Under general supervision and following standardized policies and procedures, the officer is tasked with ensuring a secure and orderly environment, protecting the grounds and off-site buildings, and ensuring the safety of all employees, visitors, and patients. This position may require Armed Security Officers to obtain Public Act 330 certification, allowing them to arrest for misdemeanor offenses, and must complete the Michigan State Police PA 330 certification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol campus on foot and in vehicle (or on bike as assigned).
  • Accept and perform various duties at assigned post and assist patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Work in the Security Operations Center monitoring phones, alarms, cameras, and radio traffic.
  • Provide statistical safety and security reporting to internal customers and senior management.
  • Complete assigned or self-generated reports or logs daily on all activities, irregularities, and investigations.
  • Investigate suspected crimes on the hospital grounds and off-site locations.
  • Provide security escorts and other assistance to employees, visitors, or patients.
  • Respond to routine inquiries and direct visitors to appropriate areas.
  • Use proactive non-violent verbal de-escalation skills to neutralize volatile situations.
  • Assist nursing staff with physical management/restraint of patients as ordered by a physician.
  • Use defensive tactics and approved MCOLES force continuum if necessary.
  • Possess, carry, and utilize Conduit Electronic Weapons, tasers, and other weapons as determined by Corewell Health policy.
  • Provide CPR/first aid in the event of a medical emergency.
  • Assist Emergency Department staff with Hazmat/Decontamination procedures.
  • Report and respond to incidents of fire and/or safety hazards.
  • Inspect firefighting apparatus and extinguishers.
  • Release patient remains to appropriate agencies or funeral homes.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two to three years' law-enforcement related work experience.
  • Ability to take charge and direct others in emergencies or dangerous incidents.
  • Approval and authorization for Electronic Control Devices (ECD) use.
  • Current Carry Pistol License (CPL) license.
  • Successful completion of the specialized Taser Training Course.
  • Driver's License - STATE_MI State of Michigan upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA within 90 days.
  • Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification within 90 days.
  • First Aid certification from AHA within 90 days.
