About the position
The Security Officer at Monroe College is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment on campus. This part-time position involves patrolling designated areas, providing assistance to the college community, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The role requires working rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays, under the supervision of the campus Public Safety Supervisor or the Director of Publicity.
Responsibilities
- Patrols designated buildings, grounds, facilities, and installations on campus to preserve a peaceful atmosphere.
- Provides a public safety presence to maintain order and safeguard life, property, and assets against fire, theft, vandalism, etc.
- Operates an electronic surveillance system as needed.
- Provides information and assistance to faculty, staff, students, and visitors, directing them to the proper individuals or areas.
- Renders escort services as directed, which may include opening doors or driving a vehicle.
- Conducts identification checks as appropriate.
- Performs crowd control duties, reprimanding and ejecting loiterers and disorderly persons.
- Performs key lock duties, locking and unlocking various areas as instructed and securing buildings as required.
- Contacts superior officer in situations that may require outside assistance, such as fire, ambulance, or police.
- Prepares reports and maintains appropriate logs of activities and incidents.
Requirements
- NYS Security Guard License is required.
- Ability to relate to and gain confidence and cooperation of the academic community.
- Ability to mediate minor disputes and evaluate threats to public safety.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Familiarity with social media.
