About the position

The Security Officer at Corewell Health is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for all individuals on hospital property. This part-time role involves patrolling the campus, monitoring security systems, assisting patients and visitors, and enforcing hospital policies. The officer may also be required to respond to emergencies, investigate incidents, and cooperate with law enforcement as necessary.

Responsibilities

• Patrol campus on foot, in vehicle, or on bike as assigned.
• Assist patients, visitors, and employees at assigned posts.
• Enforce hospital rules, regulations, and policies as appropriate.
• Monitor phones, alarms, cameras, and radio traffic in the Security Operations Center.
• Prepare and submit reports on safety and security performance and compliance issues.
• Investigate suspected crimes and prepare necessary documentation.
• Provide security escorts and assistance as needed.
• Respond to inquiries and direct visitors to appropriate areas.
• Use verbal de-escalation skills to manage volatile situations.
• Assist nursing staff with patient restraint as ordered.
• Utilize Electronic Control Devices and other weapons as required by policy.
• Provide CPR and first aid in medical emergencies.
• Assist with Hazmat/Decontamination procedures as needed.
• Inspect firefighting apparatus and participate in emergency drills.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of two to three years' law-enforcement related work experience.
• Ability to take charge in emergencies or dangerous incidents.
• Current Carry Pistol License (CPL) and completion of Taser Training Course.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire.
• Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification within 90 days of hire.
• First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
