About the position
The Security Officer position is a temporary, part-time role within the Library at Atkins Library, focusing on ensuring the safety and security of patrons, collections, and equipment. The officer will patrol the facility, monitor security systems, and report on security-related issues, while also being involved in emergency procedures as necessary. This role accommodates a flexible schedule, including weekends and various shifts.
Responsibilities
- Patrols and monitors the facility for situations that might endanger the safety and security of patrons, collections, and equipment.
- Maintains ongoing competency with security alarms, fire panels, video surveillance, alarm monitoring system, and door alarms.
- Reports daily to Library Security Coordinator on security-related issues and maintains logs of shift activities as well as 'Lost and Found'.
- Uses email, phone and radio communications between Library Security Office and Campus Police.
- Initiates emergency procedures when appropriate and assists with the implementation of these procedures as instructed.
- Stays current on methods/practices, knowledge, and skills in all job competencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of an accredited police academy or prior law enforcement experience.
