The University of Alabama at Birmingham Police and Public Safety Department is seeking a dedicated Security Operations Coordinator to join their team. This full-time position is based at the UAB Hospital Security Operations Center, where the coordinator will play a crucial role in providing dispatcher services for UAB Police and Public Safety personnel. The coordinator will be responsible for sending and receiving radio transmissions from both sworn and non-sworn field units, as well as surrounding agencies. This role requires the ability to answer telephone calls, assess the nature of assistance required, and ensure that the appropriate units within the department respond or refer the call to other sources for resolution. The position demands a high level of multi-tasking and the ability to maintain knowledge of all required department policies and procedures. In addition to communication duties, the Security Operations Coordinator will operate the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center/National Crime Information Center (ACJIC/NCIC) terminal and must become certified in its use. The coordinator will also be responsible for operating various equipment in the Communications Center. The position requires flexibility, as the coordinator will rotate through all shifts and workdays as determined by the leadership of the Security Operations Center. This role is vital for ensuring the safety and security of the UAB campus and its community, and it involves collaboration with UABPD dispatch and police officers responding to calls for service. The coordinator will also monitor and send police radio traffic, provide information for reports, and assist medical center and campus safety managers as needed.
