About the position

The Security Operations Specialist at the Illinois Tollway is responsible for planning and coordinating activities related to the protection and security of Tollway assets, employees, and the public. This role involves monitoring and analyzing security video systems, conducting vulnerability assessments, and ensuring the effective operation of security measures to maintain a safe working environment. The specialist will also interface with various agencies and vendors to resolve issues and enhance security operations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, examine, analyze, evaluate, and oversee the Tollway security operations.
• Identify and resolve security related issues.
• Develop and implement alternative methods for security operation improvement.
• Conduct physical surveys of premise security, including security equipment condition.
• Conduct security and vulnerability assessments of the Tollway and offer viable solutions to identified problems.
• Provide security resources to the Tollway and make recommendations to maintain a safe working environment.
• Utilize velocity reports to research improper access to secure locations and review active badge access.
• Provide video review investigations and report findings to various Tollway departments and law enforcement officials.
• Ensure that the video recorder and camera system are updated and functioning properly.
• Secure Tollway facilities by reviewing and monitoring surveillance equipment and devices.
• Assist in investigative responsibilities, including physical surveillance and monitoring.
• Conduct internal security training and assist in emergency management and contingency planning.
• Provide Tollway operational security assessments.
• Coordinate with vendors or other staff for required services and issue resolution.
• Update and maintain technical documentation regarding specifications and procedures.
• Review and monitor cameras daily in the Tollway's Security Video Monitoring Systems.
• Assist law enforcement and fire officials regarding the technical security of the Tollway.

Requirements

• Graduate from a college or university with major work in criminal justice, security management, government or public administration, or related fields, or equivalent combination of five years' experience and training.
• Four years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems, operating systems, applications, and peripherals.
• Comprehensive knowledge of security/loss prevention standards and principles, including physical and technical security measures.
• Ability to analyze, appraise, and recommend technical security measures.
• Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
• No felony or Class A misdemeanor convictions.
• Must possess a valid Illinois driver's license.
