About the position

The Security/Safety Officer at Advocate Aurora Health is responsible for providing security services with professionalism and compassion, ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, and staff. This part-time position requires the officer to be alert and observant, enforcing safety regulations and responding to emergencies while maintaining a professional demeanor. The role involves routine patrols, incident investigations, and collaboration with law enforcement, all aimed at fostering a secure environment within the healthcare facility.

Responsibilities

  • Provides security services with professionalism, fairness, and compassion.
  • Inspires confidence in patients, visitors, and team members by presenting a professional appearance.
  • Complies with and enforces all safety and security rules and regulations.
  • Performs routine responsibilities during interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety and security.
  • Assists team members, patients, and visitors by providing information and directions.
  • Ensures traffic control and monitors conduct of visitors on premises.
  • Prevents, responds to, and investigates workplace violence.
  • Responds to service calls involving combative or threatening individuals.
  • Serves as a primary resource for de-escalation in crisis situations.
  • Investigates incidents on Advocate Aurora property and completes reports.
  • Delivers security awareness education to team members.
  • Coordinates with law enforcement and first responder agencies.
  • May serve as a precept for newly hired officers.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in security or related public safety.
  • Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) license issued by the Department of Justice (DOJ).
  • Valid driver's license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
  • Certified in Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) use within 90 days of hire.
  • Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) must be obtained within two years.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to work flexible scheduling including off-shifts, weekends, and holidays.
