They are tasked with notifying management and emergency services in case of any emergencies, acting as a first responder to alarms during and after business hours. The officer also reports any irregularities, such as fire hazards or security breaches, and conducts inspections of safety equipment to prevent tampering. The role requires the officer to assist in fire and safety inspections in compliance with Henry Schein policies and OSHA regulations. They are responsible for permitting authorized personnel to enter the property and for issuing identification badges to contractors, vendors, and visitors. Maintaining accurate records of access cards and ensuring that terminated employees have their access revoked is also part of the job. The officer plays a significant role in loss prevention by monitoring work practices and reporting unsafe conditions, assisting in accident investigations, and maintaining records of forklift operators and hazardous materials. Additionally, they participate in special projects and events, contributing to the overall safety and well-being of the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Regularly patrols the distribution center and surrounding areas to guard against fire, theft, vandalism, and illegal entry.
  • Examines doors, windows, and gates to ensure they are secure.
  • Interacts with internal and external customers to ensure adherence to security and safety policies.
  • Monitors and ensures proper functioning of CCTV equipment, burglar and fire alarm panels, and weather alert radios.
  • Acts as a first responder to fire and burglar alarms during and after business hours.
  • Monitors and reports irregularities such as fire hazards and security doors left unlocked.
  • Inspects security and safety equipment for tampering.
  • Assists in conducting fire and safety inspections as required by company policy and OSHA regulations.
  • Permits authorized persons to enter the property and warns violators of company policy infractions.
  • Observes departing personnel to guard against theft of company property.
  • Ensures non-personal property leaves only with an authorized material pass signed by management.
  • Issues temporary identification badges to contractors, vendors, and visitors.
  • Maintains accurate records of access cards and deletes access for terminated employees.
  • Assists Human Resources with badge tracking numbers for payroll systems.
  • Maintains a current photo card file for employees.
  • Monitors work practices of TSMs, vendors, and contractors to report unsafe acts and conditions.
  • Maintains records of forklift operators and notifies them of certification due dates.
  • Assists in enforcing the Henry Schein Forklift program rules and policies.
  • Maintains hazardous spill carts and first aid training kits for emergencies.
  • Completes necessary training and medical evaluations as required by the company.
  • Maintains a library of hazardous material safety data sheets in both hard copy and online.
  • Records facility damages, injury accidents, near misses, and spills, reporting to the Security & Safety Supervisor.
  • Assists in key control maintenance through quarterly audits of doors, locks, and keys.
  • Participates in special projects such as company parties and facility open houses.

Requirements

  • Mid-level experience in security and safety roles.
  • Knowledge of OSHA compliance regulations and safety inspection procedures.
  • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Experience with monitoring and maintaining security equipment such as CCTV and alarm systems.
  • Strong observational skills to identify irregularities and potential hazards.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Experience in conducting safety inspections and audits.

Nice-to-haves
