About the position

The Security Supervisor is responsible for overseeing security officers who ensure the safety and security of learners, patients, and staff at UCSF. This role involves supervising, training, and evaluating security personnel, responding to calls for service, and managing administrative functions related to scheduling and reporting. The supervisor will spend a significant portion of their shift in the field, actively engaging with officers and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train Public Safety Ambassadors and/or Public Safety Officers.
  • Complete performance evaluations for security personnel.
  • Respond to calls for service and take a supervisory role when necessary.
  • Assist officers on calls for service and provide break/lunch relief.
  • Perform administrative functions related to scheduling, time off, and report preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with departmental policies and procedures during on-site supervision of Security Officers.
  • Act as a liaison for critical matters to the Security Administration team in their absence.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Four years of work experience in Security Services.
  • One year of proven work experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Experience performing all aspects of the security function within the specific division.
  • Interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse groups.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to supervise and train assigned security officers.
  • Experience with communications equipment and reporting systems.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in mentoring and advising employees.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and execute plans to meet deadlines.
  • Organizational skills for coordinating staff schedules and operations.
  • Ability to write reports and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with a multi-cultural population.
  • Demonstrated ability to work calmly under stress during emergencies.

Nice-to-haves

  • AA degree or higher education in law enforcement or related field.
  • Knowledge of HR and UC policies and processes.
  • Experience working with Labor Unions.
