About the position

As a Security Engineer within Google Public Sector (GPS), you will play a pivotal role in assisting public sector organizations in navigating their unique security challenges and goals. Your primary responsibility will be to guide these organizations through their cloud journey, ensuring that their Google Cloud environments are secure, compliant, and resilient. You will leverage your expertise to design and implement solutions that address complex customer challenges, developing scalable cloud architectures that optimize infrastructure operations across multi-cloud and hybrid-cloud environments. In this role, you will collaborate closely with customers to develop and harden cloud architectures that align with Google's best practices while meeting specific security requirements. Your work will involve fortifying cloud architectures against potential threats and disruptions, ensuring continuity and reliability for the organizations you serve. You will also provide expert guidance and support during security incidents, helping customers contain and mitigate threats effectively. Additionally, you will perform security and compliance assessments of customer environments, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending remediation strategies. Partnering with Google's internal security teams and external partners will be essential to leverage their expertise and insights, ensuring a coordinated and effective approach to security. As a trusted advisor, you will build trust and rapport with customers, driving successful project outcomes and helping them unlock the full potential of their cloud investments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement solutions to handle complex customer challenges.

  • Collaborate with customers to develop and harden cloud architectures that align with Google's best practices and meet their specific security requirements.
  • Fortify cloud architectures against potential threats and disruptions, ensuring continuity and reliability.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to customers during security incidents, helping them contain and mitigate threats effectively.
  • Perform security and compliance assessments of customer environments, identifying vulnerabilities and recommending remediation strategies.
  • Partner with Google's internal security teams and external partners to leverage their expertise and insights, ensuring a coordinated and effective approach.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to customers, building trust and rapport to drive successful project outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience working with client-side web technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or HTTP).
  • 3 years of experience coding with one or more programming languages (e.g., Java, C/C++, Python).
  • 3 years of experience in a consulting role leading or supporting enterprise customers with cloud architecture development, hardening, or threat detection.
  • Experience in technical troubleshooting, and managing internal/external partners or customers.
  • Active U.S. Government Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information security clearance with Full Scope Polygraph (TS/SCI FSP).

Nice-to-haves

  • Google Professional Cloud Security Engineer (PCSE) certification.
  • Security+, CISSP, or similar technical security certification.
  • 5 years of experience advising large enterprise, telecommunications, or government customers.
  • Working knowledge of NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, FISMA, DoD Risk Management Framework, StateRAMP, CJIS, and similar public sector compliance standards.
