About the position

The Self-Help - Facility Managers/Recreation Technicians positions at East Carolina University (ECU) are designed for current students to gain practical experience in managing recreational sports programs and facilities. These roles involve flexible hours and a commitment to promoting the well-being of the campus community through effective facility management and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively monitor assigned facilities and resolve conflicts as they arise.
  • Effectively communicate any issues regarding facilities, employees, or participants to necessary personnel.
  • Work with Recreational Service Attendants for access control and equipment inventory.
  • Assist other program leaders with discipline and policy enforcement as needed.
  • Check activity areas for hazards and document conditions.
  • Provide exemplary customer service and leadership to customers.
  • Observe participants and maintain control of the facility while enforcing rules and regulations.
  • Document any information concerning facility issues, disciplinary action, or injuries and complete appropriate reports.
  • Use critical thinking skills to evaluate and prioritize factors to arrive at practical solutions.
  • Assist in emergencies as identified in the Emergency Procedures Manual.
  • Check area(s) for hazards and report them to Facilities personnel.
  • Properly maintain and clean utility areas at various recreation centers.
  • Assist in maintaining CRW's vehicle fleet.
  • Adapt to site and employee issues and communicate these with necessary personnel.
  • Operate various machinery, equipment, and tools.
  • Mark a variety of athletic fields and provide exemplary customer service.

Requirements

  • Must be a current ECU student in good academic standing.
  • Clearance to operate university vehicles through a driver's license check.
  • Obtain valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be able to lift and manage a minimum of 60 pounds.
  • Flexible work availability, including early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, and ECU sanctioned breaks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team for a minimum of 8-12 hours per week.

Nice-to-haves

  • Majors in Recreation and Park Management, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or Construction Management are preferred.
