About the position

The Self-Perform Electrical Designer at McCarthy Building Co. is responsible for developing and preparing detailed electrical and construction installation documents. This role involves providing project support during the construction phase, collaborating closely with project superintendents, field installation teams, and project managers. The designer will analyze drawings for efficiency, prepare conceptual designs, and perform various calculations related to power distribution and lighting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and prepare detailed electrical and construction installation documents and packages.
  • Provide project support during the construction phase, collaborating with project superintendents and field teams.
  • Gather and request information from equipment submittals and other trade partners to complete designs on schedule.
  • Analyze drawings to enhance installation efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Prepare and develop conceptual designs and sketches for presentation to project teams and owners.
  • Perform calculations and studies related to power distribution, lighting, and cable sizing.
  • Create and modify project-specific cable schedules and other required documentation.
  • Prepare design guidelines, reference guides, and symbols in collaboration with the team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or an Associate's degree with 2 years of on-the-job experience.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk products including Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
  • Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and navigate construction and electrical drawings, including 1-line diagrams.
  • Knowledge of the National Electric Code and other building codes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment and adapt to different project needs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with power distribution calculations and lighting calculations.
  • Familiarity with derating and voltage drop calculations.
