About the position

The Self-perform Estimator at McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. plays a crucial role in the bid and estimating process, focusing primarily on concrete work. This position involves reviewing plans and specifications, soliciting and negotiating prices from contractors and suppliers, and ensuring the completion of the bid/estimating effort, including closeout. The estimator will perform quantity take-offs, pricing, scoping, and bidding for construction projects, particularly those involving complex trade packages and self-perform work.

Responsibilities

• Perform quantity take-offs for construction projects.
• Assist in pricing and bidding of construction projects.
• Develop and document logical assumptions during conceptual estimating activities.
• Communicate with architects and consultants to clarify scope of work, materials, and schedule requirements.
• Conduct reviews of milestone documents for the development and pricing of value alternative opportunities.
• Participate in the internal estimate review process.
• Assist with final assembly of estimates for presentation to owners.
• Collect and organize all bid information for future reference after the bid.
• Aid field operations with change order pricing if needed.
• Direct, coordinate, and provide information and documents to subcontractors.
• Prepare contractual exhibits for scope of work for subcontracts.
• Participate in hard bid/estimating and GMP budgeting activities by soliciting subcontractor support and evaluating bids.
• Build relationships with subcontractors to obtain a competitive advantage for McCarthy.
• Attend industry events and represent McCarthy in a professional capacity.
• Keep current with the latest estimating technology and techniques.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering or 5-7 years of equivalent experience required.
• General knowledge of construction principles and processes, with an emphasis on concrete work.
• Ability to synthesize cost data from a wide range of sources into a conceptual estimate.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
• General knowledge of negotiated bids, hard bids, and GMP processes.
• Working knowledge of estimating technology and tools such as OST, WinEst, and BIM related software.
• Strong math and analytical skills.
