About the position

The Semiconductor Process Engineering Department Manager at HRL Laboratories is responsible for overseeing a team of approximately 40 engineers in the Microfabrication Technology Laboratory. This role focuses on managing and improving semiconductor processes, transitioning technologies from research and development to low-volume production, and ensuring high-quality outcomes in semiconductor technology development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering leadership to improve process discipline while allowing flexibility for new process development.
  • Maintain and improve tool/process control plans in collaboration with equipment personnel.
  • Regularly review process control data to identify improvement opportunities and advocate for enhancements.
  • Establish and maintain close relationships with internal and external customers to understand future process needs.
  • Develop process roadmaps for each of the six functional areas within the department.
  • Collaborate with the Process Integration department on 'Design for Manufacturability' for new products and improve standardization for existing products.
  • Track scrap and rework causes and implement improvement plans.
  • Ensure process documentation is maintained and that engineers provide regular training to Production personnel.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) or Master's degree (M.S.) in a relevant field.
  • At least 10 to 15 years of experience in a semiconductor cleanroom environment.
  • Minimum of 10 years managing semiconductor personnel.
  • Thorough understanding of semiconductor process modules including photolithography, ebeam lithography, dry etch, wet etch, CVD, PVD, and ALD.
  • Expertise in Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality standards is a plus.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or higher is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $182,720 - $234,168 plus bonus and benefits.
  • Salary determined by role, level, and location, with individual pay based on skills, experience, and education.
