About the position

The Senate Honorary Page Coordinator / Assistant Sergeant at Arms is a critical role within the Office of the Oregon Secretary of the Senate, responsible for assisting with daily operations during the legislative session. This position involves guiding Honorary Pages through the legislative process, ensuring their safety and well-being, and stepping in for the Senate Sergeant at Arms as needed. The role requires on-site work in Salem and is limited duration, expected to last from January 6, 2025, to June 29, 2025, depending on the legislative session's conclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, schedule, and implement the honorary page program.
  • Conduct educational tours of the Senate and Oregon State Capitol.
  • Ensure the well-being and safety of the Page program participants.
  • Supervise participants of the honorary page program.
  • Guide participants in a general government study of the legislative process.
  • Assist with the preparation of the Senate chamber for sessions, ensuring all necessary materials and supplies are in place.

Requirements

  • Experience working with middle school aged children or young adults in an instructional or educational setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Senate Chamber protocols.
  • Knowledge of Oregon history as it relates to the Capitol building.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to work as a team member as well as independently.
  • Familiarity with office equipment such as copiers, telephones, and computers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Education or Political Science.
