About the position

The Senior Accountant at Randolph College is responsible for applying accounting principles to prepare and analyze financial reports. This role involves general ledger accounting, month-end close processes, financial data preparation, account analysis, and reconciliations. The successful candidate will develop and implement financial accounting concepts for effective financial planning and reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Record accurate accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP and not-for-profit accounting standards.
  • Manage Campus Store accounting functions including deposits, statement reconciliations, inventory adjustments, and sales & use tax reporting.
  • Review and file sales and use tax filings for Maier, MFA, and Alumnae/i.
  • Oversee accounting and recordkeeping for the federal Perkins Loan program, acting as a liaison between Financial Aid and the Business Office.
  • Assist in preparing the annual financial aid Fiscal Operations Report and Application to Participate (FISAP).
  • Reconcile balances with the third-party loan servicer (UAS) and prepare journal entries for loan accounts.
  • Review and adjust complex gift transactions, recommending proper accounting treatment to the Controller or VP for Finance and Administration.
  • Serve as primary backup for accounts payable functions and review accounts payable batches before processing.
  • Audit travel advances and expenses, analyze data, and troubleshoot problems.
  • Journalize mortgage payments and prepare annual 1099-INT reporting.
  • Review balance sheet account reconciliations, identify errors, and provide feedback for corrections.
  • Prepare for the annual Alumnae/i Association internal audit and assist in the College's annual audit and financial statement preparation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in accounting.
  • At least three years of work experience preferred, especially in higher education or non-profit sectors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with computer-based accounting systems; Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains experience is a plus.

  • Experience in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of federal Perkins Loan program accounting.
