About the position

The Senior Accountant position at Aniles and Company is responsible for performing comprehensive accounting and financial analysis for clients. This role involves developing and maintaining accounting systems, preparing financial reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The Senior Accountant will also assist in audits, communicate with clients regarding financial concerns, and contribute to budgeting and forecasting efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing financial statements, including monthly and quarterly financial reports and forecasts for the Management Team.
  • Month end and quarterly closing activities, such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Preparing payroll and expense allocations across functional areas, grants, or programs.
  • Updating account schedules and bank reconciliations.
  • Analyzing and reconciling general ledger accounts and investment transactions, preparing monthly reports for management.
  • Assisting the Principal with annual financial audits as the company liaison with auditors.
  • Communicating with clients to address financial concerns.
  • Producing financial data for management upon request and assisting with special accounting projects.
  • Performing monthly operational analysis.
  • Developing budgets and forecast reports.
  • Preparing corporate tax filings and addressing tax questions.
  • Researching and implementing new accounting standards and tax regulations beneficial to clients.
  • Working with client funders to prepare billings and grant financial reports.
  • Preparing tax filings, such as 990's.
  • Researching tax code requirements and OMB circulars.
  • Collaborating with client management to prepare financial responses and budgets for proposals and funding opportunities.
  • Reviewing grants for conditions, restrictions, and revenue recognition.
  • Attending management and board meetings as requested.
  • Analyzing business segments to assist in decision-making.
  • Ensuring clients are audit-ready and working directly with auditors.
  • Training other accountants within the firm on procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • Experience with GAAP accounting principles.
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience in a similar role.
  • Non-profit experience preferred.
  • CPA certification required.
  • Strong organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills, including expertise in Microsoft Excel and Word, as well as experience with accounting software and general ledgers.
  • Analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.
