About the position

The Senior Accountant at Freeport-McMoRan plays a crucial role in overseeing financial operations within the Morenci mining complex. This position involves leading the assembly of complex financial statements, ensuring accurate recording of expenditures, and providing insights for policy enhancements. The Senior Accountant will also assist in audit preparations and may offer guidance to less experienced accounting staff, contributing to a collaborative and safety-focused work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble complex and interrelated financial statements as a team leader.
  • Oversee and review the recording of expenditures and postings to general ledgers.
  • Verify books and bank statement reconciliation.
  • Analyze financial operations and recommend enhancements to policies or procedures.
  • Review and recommend new or enhanced automated financial statements.
  • Assist in audit preparation by developing required schedules and reconciliation reports.
  • Monitor and develop monthly reports of revenues and expenditures for projects.
  • Provide functional advice or training to less experienced accountant positions at the site.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED with eight (8) years of professional experience in accounting, including two (2) years of prolonged intellectual instruction in Accounting or Finance; OR
  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related area with six (6) years of professional experience in accounting; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related area with four (4) years of experience in accounting; OR
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related area with two (2) years of experience in accounting.
  • Broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in accounting.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards.
  • Knowledge of office procedures and equipment, including PCs and financial software.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing.
