About the position

The Senior Accountant for Inventory and Cost Accounting at Starbucks plays a crucial role in ensuring data integrity and accuracy in complex accounting functions. This position serves as a subject matter expert, supporting cross-functional teams and projects while contributing to the overall success of the company. The role involves maintaining and developing accounting systems, preparing financial reports, and providing training to less experienced accountants.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop various accounting systems and processes.
  • Recommend and implement ideas and innovations to improve existing systems and work processes.
  • Engage in cross-functional settings to represent department interests.
  • Assist manager with training of less experienced accountants and facilitate cross-training among the team.
  • Assist in prioritizing work and coordination of special projects or audits.
  • Prepare and distribute financial reports; interpret account information and reports for customers.
  • Set up and maintain accounting and fiscal control records.
  • Create, prepare and review journal entries that are accurate and compliant with company policies.
  • Produce financial statements, revenue projections, and cost/benefit analyses.
  • Research new or existing accounting guidance for business transactions.

Requirements

  • 4+ years general accounting experience at a professional level, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting/finance or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with inventory and cost accounting.
  • Experience preparing audit schedules and providing audit support.
  • Demonstrated ability to trace transactions from subledger to general ledger.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work through complex problems with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to interact with a variety of people at all organizational levels.
  • Experience with general ledger systems (e.g. Oracle or other ERP).
  • Ability to prioritize and document work performed.
  • Advanced analytical skills.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
