About the position

The Senior Accountant at Core-Mark is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely reflection of transactions and consolidations in the Company's General Ledger in accordance with GAAP. This role involves overseeing SOX controls and reporting requirements for a public company, contributing to the financial integrity and compliance of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review General Ledger Journal entries during the month-end close with adequate supporting documentation.
  • Conduct monthly reviews of financial results and variance analysis compared to goals, last year, year-end, and prior quarter.
  • Develop and maintain account analysis/reconciliation processes ensuring compliance with GAAP.
  • Review the balance sheet monthly for assigned areas, including variance analysis and resolution of outstanding issues.
  • Prepare schedules and reports for annual and interim audits.
  • Reconcile payments of premiums and claims with third-party benefit administrators.
  • Develop accounting procedures for new processes ensuring adequate reporting and control consistent with corporate guidelines and GAAP.
  • Communicate finalized processes to appropriate users and Business Partners.
  • Prepare necessary presentations for period-end financial reviews.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis requests from finance and other functional areas.
  • Assess financial and accounting issues related to new business and strategies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting preferred.
  • At least 4 years of relevant accounting and/or reporting experience, with at least 2 years of month-end close experience.
  • Experience in a medium to large size company.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Excel and possess analytical and complex spreadsheet skills.
  • Working knowledge of a medium or large-scale ERP accounting system; SAP and/or Blackline experience preferred.
  • Ability to drive process improvement.
  • Very strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, or a related field from an accredited University.
  • Excellent accounting skills and strong knowledge of GAAP and FASB accounting standards.
  • Master's degree in Business with an emphasis in Accounting preferred.
