About the position

The Senior Accountant is responsible for providing accurate financial information to management through research and analysis of accounting data, as well as preparing comprehensive reports. This role plays a crucial part in developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures, guiding other accounting staff, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting of financial information. The Senior Accountant also contributes significantly during audits and reviews conducted by external auditors.

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial reports and statements for management review and decision making.
• Analyze financial data to identify trends and variances.
• Develop and implement accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and company standards.
• Coordinate and oversee the month-end close process, including preparation of journal entries and reconciliations of accounts.
• Review and approve the work of staff accountants to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
• Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including monitoring aging reports and developing strategies for collections and vendor management.
• Provide financial analysis and support to business units, including preparing forecasts and budgets and analyzing actual vs. budget performance.
• Assist in the preparation and review of regulatory filings, including premium and tax reports.
• Act as a liaison between the accounting department and other departments, providing guidance on accounting issues and policies.
• Participate in special projects and initiatives, including system implementations and process improvements.
• Provide training and mentorship to staff accountants and support their professional development.
• Conduct research and analysis on emerging accounting issues and trends.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in Accounting or a related field.
• Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance or a related field and/or commensurate experience.
