About the position

The Senior Accountant at Talladega College plays a crucial role in analyzing the financial status of the institution and developing long-term financial goals. This position is responsible for directing the preparation of all financial reports, statements, audits, operating budgets, and controls. The Senior Accountant ensures the integrity of accounting information by meticulously recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions in accordance with accepted accounting principles. This role requires a high level of accuracy and confidentiality, as the accountant will work closely with various constituents throughout the College and the community. In addition to maintaining and balancing subsidiary accounts, the Senior Accountant will prepare and record entries related to assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenses by compiling and analyzing account information. The position also involves maintaining the general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing trial balances, and reconciling entries. The Senior Accountant will summarize the financial status of the College by collecting information and preparing essential financial statements such as balance sheets and profit and loss statements. The role includes assisting in the completion of external audits by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts and providing necessary information to auditors. The Senior Accountant will also secure financial information through database backups and prepare various spreadsheets, charts, and graphs for reporting purposes and day-to-day operations as requested. Furthermore, the accountant will assist the management team in developing operating budgets and ensuring compliance with tax credit reporting requirements. Other duties may be assigned by the supervisor or CFO as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions using accepted accounting principles.
  • Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expenses entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
  • Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
  • Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing a trial balance, and reconciling entries.
  • Summarizes financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheet, profit and loss, and other required financial statements.
  • Assist in completing the external audit by analyzing and scheduling general ledger accounts and providing information for auditors.
  • Secures financial information by completing database backups.
  • Prepare various spreadsheets, charts, and graphs for reporting purposes and for day-to-day operations as requested.
  • Assist management team in developing operating budgets.
  • Assist management team with tax credit compliance reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor/CFO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required.
  • 5 years' experience in accounting/finance.
  • CPA preferred.
  • Experience in working with multiple legal entities.
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements.
  • Must pay attention to detail and be deadline-oriented.
  • Must have a high level of accuracy and confidentiality and be able to work with constituents throughout the College and community.
  • General math skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly with Excel.
  • Working knowledge of General Accepted Accounting Principles.
