About the position

At Maine Drilling & Blasting (MD&B), we are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our dedicated team. This position is crucial as it involves providing accounting support for job cost, financial, and inventory transactions and reporting. The Senior Accountant will work closely with the Controller and the entire accounting team, ensuring that all activities align with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team member, capable of multitasking in a fast-paced office environment. The role includes specialized calculations and analysis support across various accounting functions, utilizing advanced knowledge of accounting practices. Responsibilities will encompass supporting the month-end close process, preparing financial statements, and generating statistical reports for management meetings. The Senior Accountant will also assist with job cost analysis, monthly work-in-process schedule preparation, and the reconciliation of company inventories. This position requires interaction with other company personnel to gain a comprehensive understanding of related inventory systems. Additionally, the Senior Accountant will perform periodic reconciliations of selected general ledger accounts, research and resolve routine exceptions, and assist with the maintenance of the fixed assets sub-ledger. Participation in the development and implementation of new or revised accounting systems is also expected, along with providing technical advice and services to other staff members on complex issues or special projects. Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized or general calculations and analysis support in various accounting functions.
  • Support the month-end close process and assist with the preparation of various financial statements and statistical reports for management meetings.
  • Assist with job cost analysis and monthly work-in-process schedule preparation.
  • Assist with the monthly reconciliation of Company inventories and interact with other Company personnel as necessary.
  • Perform periodic reconciliation of selected general ledger accounts and resolve routine exceptions independently.
  • Assist with the monthly update and maintenance of the fixed assets sub-ledger.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new or revised accounting systems.
  • Provide technical advice and services to other staff members with problems, complex issues, or special projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience, including significant experience with cost or project accounting.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Technical skills in account reconciliation, cost analysis, and month-end closing report generation.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Sage Timberline Office accounting software is a plus.
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and highly analytic with strong problem-solving skills.
