About the position

The Senior Accountant at Hermès of Paris is responsible for delivering timely and accurate period-end closing reporting of the company's financial statements, particularly focusing on lease accounting. This role involves managing accounting details for real estate and property leases, ensuring compliance with accounting rules such as GAAP and IFRS, and collaborating closely with various teams within the Finance department.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver timely and accurate period-end closing reporting of financial statements related to lease accounting.
  • Document accounting policies and procedures related to leases.
  • Identify, measure, and show leases according to accounting rules like ASC840, ASC842, and IFRS16.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring internal controls related to leases and lease accounting software.
  • Enter lease details for all leases, amendments, and modifications into excel abstracts and reports or lease management software.
  • Maintain the lease accounting spreadsheet for all capital leases and prepare monthly journal entries related to these leases.
  • Prepare budget schedules relating to all lease expenses and perform monthly analysis of budget vs actual.
  • Assist with sourcing lease accounting software suppliers and coordinate the bidding process.
  • Review lease module for the activation of a lease once a new store has opened.
  • Participate in the monthly close process including journalizing rent and related expenses and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Analyze and reconcile landlord rent statements and resolve discrepancies with landlords.
  • Maintain NSO checklist and coordinate monthly meetings.
  • Review and audit lease year-end statements from landlords regarding various costs.
  • Track and recoup tenant allowance reimbursement.
  • Interface with internal and external auditors on an ad hoc and annual basis.
  • Assist the Accounting Team with other ad hoc tasks and functions.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on lease accounting.
  • Working knowledge of FASB and IASB rules related to lease accounting.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience with Straight-Line and Deferred Rent.
  • Knowledge of SAP and Lease Accounting Software is a plus.
  • Strong ethics, integrity, and confidentiality.
  • Ability to accurately enter data and make decisions based on supporting documents.
  • Passion for process or system enhancements and operational excellence.
  • Curious and problem-solving mindset.
  • BA in Accounting or similar degree required.
