About the position

The ideal candidate will bring a strong accounting background, with expertise in financial reporting and analysis, and a solid understanding of life sciences industry operations. The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in supporting the accounting and finance functions within the organization. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial reports, supporting month-end and year-end closing processes, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. This role requires strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to communicate and work cross-functionally with other departments.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review journal entries, financial statements, and supporting schedules in accordance with GAAP.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
  • Perform general ledger reconciliation, including intercompany, bank, and balance sheet accounts.
  • Analyze financial results, identifying trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support audits by preparing schedules and providing requested documentation to external auditors.
  • Manage and track research and development (R&D) tax credits, grant funding, and other life sciences-related financial activities.
  • Ensure proper internal controls are in place to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with other departments such as operations, R&D, and procurement to ensure financial data is accurately captured and reported.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry-specific accounting standards and regulations, keeping the finance team updated on any changes.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting activities, providing financial insights and support to department leaders.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior accountants or other finance team members as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior accounting role or public accounting firm.
  • Experience in the life sciences, healthcare, or biotechnology industries is highly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting.
  • Experience with financial statement preparation and audit support.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (preference for NetSuite).
  • Strong Excel skills with the ability to analyze large sets of data and produce reports.
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
