About the position

The Senior Accounting Manager plays a crucial role in the accounting department by providing ongoing support and collaboration with management to oversee the day-to-day operations. This position involves managing department initiatives and supervising assigned accounting staff. The Senior Accounting Manager is responsible for supporting the accounting department in all aspects of the general ledger, which includes reviewing journal entries, reconciling accounts, creating accounts, and maintaining a comprehensive understanding of all reconciliations performed bank-wide. Additionally, this role entails the review and approval of prepaid expenses and accruals, managing property contractual commitments, and overseeing the bank's equity investments. In this position, the Senior Accounting Manager will also participate in the training and development of accounting staff to ensure that departmental and organizational goals are met. This includes providing guidance and assistance in analyzing and resolving reconciling variances. A working knowledge of the various software used by the bank is essential, as the Senior Accounting Manager will represent the accounting department during periodic reviews and updates. The role requires leading the planning, preparation, and data collection for both internal and external audits. The Senior Accounting Manager will participate in the preparation and fair presentation of financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP. This position serves as the point of contact for data collection and communication with external tax preparers, participating in the review of the annual tax return, federal and state quarterly tax payments, and preparing and recording adjusting journal entries. Compliance with all tax and accounting laws is critical, ensuring adherence to regulatory record-keeping and reporting requirements. Collaboration in the development, management, and implementation of assigned accounting projects is also a key responsibility. The Senior Accounting Manager will support the oversight of internal controls, accounting processes, and data management, documenting and reviewing periodic updates of accounting policies, practices, and procedures. This role involves guiding and assisting other departments by clearly communicating current accounting policies and procedures and composing new procedures as necessitated by best practices and regulatory changes. Furthermore, the Senior Accounting Manager will participate in the finance and accounting team's initiatives to support bank-wide staff onboarding to finance group-owned platforms and further learning and development training to embed sound finance and budgeting practices across the bank. This includes providing guidance and support to other departments throughout the annual budget process and participating in research and implementation related to recent accounting pronouncements and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • 5+ years of broad finance and accounting experience in the banking industry.
  • 3+ years of people management experience overseeing finance and accounting professionals.
  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting; Master's preferred.
  • Active CPA designation is required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present key data concisely to individuals with varying levels of finance acumen.
