About the position

The Senior Accounting Manager position is a critical role within Ryder, reporting directly to the Sr Director of Construction, Building Maintenance (BM) and Fuel Ops. This position is responsible for managing a team that provides comprehensive accounting and financial support and analysis across four key groups: Ryder Fuel Services (RFS), Real Estate (RE), Construction, and Building Maintenance (BM). The Accounting Manager will independently engage with external senior management and internal stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration. This role involves creating, maintaining, and enhancing recurring reporting and analysis responsibilities to support Ryder's US FMS and SCS business segments. The Accounting Manager will oversee financial operations related to over $1 billion in Real Estate assets, $100 million in annual CAPEX spending, and $20 million in yearly revenue, along with managing over 40,000 accounts payable and receivable transactions annually. This position requires the preparation, analysis, and presentation of financial results to senior leadership, as well as partnering with them to develop financial models for new service and product offerings aimed at driving revenue growth. In addition to managing daily operations, the Accounting Manager will identify and resolve accounting and business issues, develop and implement strategies to streamline accounts payable and receivable functions, and ensure compliance with GAAP and corporate policies. The role also includes mentoring and training the accounting team, facilitating financial performance criteria development, and coordinating with internal and external auditors. The Accounting Manager will play a vital role in supporting strategic planning and identifying opportunities and risks through data analysis and modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the accounting team, identifying and solving accounting and business issues as they arise.
  • Develop and implement strategies to streamline day-to-day accounts payable and receivable functions across the supported groups.
  • Prepare, analyze, and present the segment's financial results to senior management and leadership.
  • File quarterly and annual internal and external financial assessments, and prepare variance analysis for Ryder and external customers.
  • Facilitate financial/accounting engagement with various stakeholders, including vendors, customers, and suppliers, to drive operational efficiencies.
  • Lead and mentor the accounting team, ensuring effective training in accounting guidance and company policies.
  • Support strategic planning by identifying opportunities and risks through data analysis and quantitative data compilation.
  • Provide a variety of reports and presentations, engaging effectively with stakeholders.
  • Facilitate the development of goal-oriented financial performance criteria and work targets.
  • Ensure alignment with GAAP and corporate compliance requirements, managing month-end, quarterly, and yearly accounting activities.
  • Review and approve balance sheet account reconciliations, providing guidance to segment leadership as needed.
  • Develop and enhance the accounting/financial framework for supported groups, implementing effective policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate with internal and external auditors, providing necessary information for audit requirements.
  • Lead vendor/supplier management compliance requirements and participate in ad hoc projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance (required).
  • Master's degree in accounting or finance (preferred).
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in public accounting.
  • Experience with WorkDay preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) required upon hire.
