About the position

The Senior Accounting Manager at Aston Carter is responsible for overseeing a moderately large and complex accounting function within a government contracting environment. This role involves direct management of accounting staff, ensuring compliance with accounting standards, and serving as a liaison with external auditors and regulatory authorities. The position is focused on maintaining accurate financial reporting and improving accounting processes to support the company's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage a moderately large/complex accounting function and the accounting staff.
  • Monitor department policies and procedures and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely external document submissions and filings.
  • Serve as a liaison between the company and external auditors and regulatory authorities.
  • Complete reports and analyses of departmental and area operations as requested by management.
  • Work with external consultants or auditors to provide required information and ensure proper recordkeeping.
  • Manage the preparation of daily, monthly, annual, and other periodic financial statements.
  • Develop, modify, and review accounting systems, reporting methods, and controls.
  • Ensure integration of data produced into systems to support financial analysts' objectives.
  • Compile, analyze, and report accounting data and revenue in accordance with GAAP policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the employment, training, motivation, and discipline of direct reports.
  • Assign, direct, and evaluate personnel to ensure efficient operations.
  • Ensure accounting activities comply with established legal, regulatory, and company procedures.
  • Establish accounting plans, goals, and policies consistent with company-wide goals.
  • Support and communicate the mission, values, and culture of the organization.
  • Monitor and analyze financial information and prepare specialized reports.
  • Balance books and prepare accounting statements (profit/loss, income, cash flow, etc.).
  • Record assets, liabilities, and other financial transactions.
  • Maintain records of disbursements and expenses.
  • Review accounts and reports for accuracy.
  • Contribute to the design or modification of accounting systems.
  • Improve processes and procedures for capturing, tracking, and reporting financial transactions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of Accounting Management experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in Government Contracting.
  • 2+ years of Deltek Costpoint experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP).
  • Manufacturing experience.
