About the position

The Senior Acquisitions Editor for Computer Science at MIT Press is responsible for strategically acquiring and developing textbooks and professional books in the fields of computer science, statistics, robotics, and physical sciences. This role involves managing a pipeline of projects, collaborating with authors and peer reviewers to ensure high-quality manuscripts, and maintaining relationships with MIT faculty and other advisors. The editor will also oversee a backlist of projects and contribute to the growth of the MIT Press portfolio.

Responsibilities

  • Strategically acquire and develop textbooks and professional books on significant topics in computer science and related fields.
  • Manage a pipeline of projects and work with authors and peer reviewers to develop high-quality manuscripts.
  • Oversee a backlist of projects and serve as the primary point of contact with authors.
  • Establish robust relationships with MIT faculty members and wider networks of advisors and prospective authors.
  • Promote the growth and continued success of the MIT Press portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of book acquisitions experience in computer science or a related field, or nine years of experience total.
  • Solid track record of book acquisitions, including textbooks in computer science or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Knowledge of publishing contracts and terms and the higher education community.
  • Ability to work with academic authors and handle confidential information with discretion.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in computer science, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of LaTeX.
