About the position

This role is part of the LII Commercial & Specialty Reserving team, primarily responsible for managing gross and net reserves for various business classes within the Latin America and US region. The position involves significant interaction with stakeholders across Underwriting, Finance, Operations, and Executive functions, and can be filled as either a Senior Actuarial Analyst or an Actuary based on the candidate's experience.

Responsibilities

  • Project and set reserves (gross and net of outwards reinsurance on a US GAAP basis) to support the Chief Reserving Actuary with quarterly reserving analysis.
  • Act as a trusted independent advisor, communicating quarterly reserve analyses with insight and confidence.
  • Provide insights to improve underwriting outcomes and identify trends, uncertainties, and emerging risks.
  • Propose corrective actions in a timely manner based on analysis.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to actuarial analysts within the Reserving team.
  • Partner with various departments to develop a common view of underwriting profitability by product, industry, and region.
  • Support process transformation involving tactical and strategic process improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure existing and new processes are up-to-date and compliant with regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver high-quality professional service with technical rigor, transparency, and consistency.
  • Adhere to all relevant regulatory requirements and demonstrate compliance with internal policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Associateship or Fellowship in the Casualty Actuarial Society (ACAS/FCAS) or Society of Actuaries (ASA/FSA) preferred.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience required.
  • Sound knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, and sales.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships effectively.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor peers and train subordinates.
  • Commercial and Specialty Reserving experience with knowledge of various (re)insurance portfolios.
  • Strong IT skills, particularly advanced knowledge of MS Excel and MS Office suite.
  • Experience with big data manipulation and visualization software such as SQL and Power BI is advantageous.
  • Analytical problem solver with outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to influence business decisions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience from consulting or personal lines is welcomed.
  • Analytics coding experience in packages such as R, Python, or similar.
